These activities will help you stay active during the summer

While in winter we most like to spend our time inside cuddled up in front of the fireplace, summer is the season to expand our horizons and go outside. But yeah…what exactly do you want to do? Will you choose a brisk walk in the outside air, hit the training extra hard, or something completely different? Read on for lots of inspiration on how to fill your summer months.

By definition, the summer makes us happier. This has everything to do with the fact that it’s the best season to spend more time outside: it stays light longer, the sun shines more—vitamin D!—and we (often) simply feel better in our own skin. All these positive changes offer the ideal chance to consider new routines, to ensure that we actually spend more time outside. That’s why we’ve collected some of the most fun ideas for you.

Eco-friendly jogging

For example, how do you feel about…plogging? “Plogging” is a combination of “jogging” and the Swedish “plocka upp,” which is loosely translated as “cleaning up trash.” In other words, you pick up litter while you’re jogging or running. In this way, you’re not only working towards a healthier body, but also a healthier planet. This phenomenon originated in Sweden, but now it’s finding its way to other countries, like America. It is a perfect workout for nature lovers.

Searching for treasure

For people who want to be out in nature and also have an adventurous spirit, geocoaching is definitely something to consider. But maybe we need to explain it first. Despite more than 6 million (!) active participants around the world, its popularity isn’t equally high from country to country. This outside sport involves using GPS-coordinates to search for treasures that are hidden by other players and can be practically anywhere. With the help from a GPS tracker, you hit the road and go exploring—you can see it as a treasure hunt for adults!

New hobby

The summer also affords us an excellent opportunity to discover a new sport or hobby. Maybe you’ve always want to try photography but had no idea where to begin. The summer is therefore a great starting point. Have you heard of “the golden hour?” For an hour at the beginning and end of the day, just before sunrise and sunset, the sun casts a beautiful golden filter that contributes to the most amazing photos. An added benefit from all these pictures is that they remind you of how incredibly beautiful the world actually is. Stronger still: photography is an ideal manner to take a step back, slow down, and enjoy everything life has to offer.

Go nuts in your garden

Speaking of that, if you’re lucky enough to have your own (little) garden, then investing some time in it is always a good idea. Take advantage of your leftover spring fever and really change it up. Here’s a tip: first set aside a free day for a home & garden store visit for inspiration. Or page through some magazines in search of new ideas. Then you can really let your green thumb go and transform your garden into a perfect summery scene.

In short: the summer is the time to spend outdoors. With these tips, it truly is the season to discover new things, activities and hobbies—so go outside and get started!
