From a full sun care range to nourishing body creams to salt and sugar-based scrubs, Rituals has the surface of your skin covered. But as we all know, beauty goes much farther than skin-deep. So along with protecting your summer skin with our luxurious products, here are some other routines you’ll want to try.
Fuel yourself with food to glow
Fresh fruits and veggies are your skin’s best friend. Stock your kitchen with things like blueberries and broccoli for extra vitamin C—this is not only a powerful antioxidant, but also helps with collagen production. What does this mean for your skin? Antioxidants fight the free radicals that cause cell damage and collagen is the magical substance which keeps our skin smooth and prevents wrinkles. So basically, eating foods rich in vitamin C keeps you looking young.
Be a sleeping beauty
Former supermodel and current beauty icon Tyra Banks said it best: the most important item in your make-up bag is a good night’s sleep. When you sleep, your body boosts blood flow to the skin, which gives it a healthy and youthful appearance. It’s also the time when you produce the most—you guessed it—collagen. Get 7-8 hours of shuteye every night and your skin will thank you for it.
Think before you drink
Science says your skin is 64% water, so it makes sense that keeping hydrating is essential for good skin. Drinking enough water helps your body with digestion, circulation and absorption and when these things are all working properly, it reflects in your skin. If you are dehydrated, your skin turns dry, tight and flaky, leaving it prone to blemishes and wrinkles. So keep a glass of water handy whenever possible (and avoid things like excessive alcohol and coffee, which have the opposite effect) to keep your skin moisturized from the inside.
This summer, remember to protect your skin on the outside but don’t forget to nourish your insides as part of your skin care regimen. Eat well, sleep more and drink 8 glasses of water a day and you’ll be amazed at what it does for your complexion.
